NSW Health has announced applications are now open for around 4,000 Junior Medical Officer (JMO) positions through the State’s annual recruitment drive – the largest of its kind in the country.

NSW Health Medical Advisor Dr Linda Macpherson said applications for the JMO positions opened today for doctors with at least one year of post graduate work experience who are looking for a vocational or non-vocational position in NSW.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for NSW doctors to train in a range of specialties in public hospitals across the State,” Dr Macpherson said.

“Specialities include psychiatry, pathology, intensive care medicine, general medicine, palliative care and pain medicine.

“These positions offer a variety of training opportunities and include rotations through different specialty teams and clinical environments at hospitals in metropolitan, regional and rural settings.

“This important recruitment program is about expanding the skills and capacity of the NSW medical workforce to treat patients with increasingly complex conditions.”

Dr Macpherson said the recruitment program was an opportunity to improve the distribution of doctors in NSW, particularly in outer metropolitan, regional and rural areas.

“I’d encourage applicants to consider rural and regional positions which combine wonderful lifestyle opportunities while providing world class specialist training in a range of clinical settings.”

Applications for JMO positions open today and will close on 11 August 2016.
