A milestone sod turn today marks the start of construction on the NSW Government’s $150 million Goulburn Hospital and Health Service Redevelopment project.

NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard joined Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman to turn the sod and announce the appointment of the main works construction contract to Hansen Yuncken.

They also released fly-through vision to give the community a sneak preview of the finished project.

“Today marks a new chapter for Goulburn Hospital, which has been looking after the health and wellbeing of communities in southern NSW since 1848,” Mr Hazzard said.

“The NSW Government’s $150 million redevelopment project will deliver first-class health services and boost the local economy, delivering new jobs in health and construction.”

Mrs Tuckerman said the local community had been heavily involved in designing the building to ensure the services meet local health needs.

“More than 4000 Goulburn community members, staff and patients have had their say in the planning of this fantastic new health facility to ensure these services meet their needs now and well into the future,” Mrs Tuckerman said.

The main works are expected to be complete in 2021 and will deliver a new, four-storey Clinical Services Building that includes new:
  • main entry and hospital reception
  • emergency department
  • medical imaging department
  • intensive care unit
  • operating theatres, day surgery and recovery areas
  • medical, surgical, paediatric, rehabilitation and geriatric inpatient units with designated palliative care beds
  • maternity unit and birthing suite, ambulatory paediatric and antenatal clinics
  • mental health triage and emergency call service.
The community will have the chance to learn more about the redevelopment at a local drop-in session on 31 October where the fly-through vision will be on display.

The redevelopment of Goulburn Health Service builds on the NSW Government’s extensive investment in health facilities across the district. This includes $18.6 million  for the Cooma Hospital Redevelopment and $8 million for the refurbishment of Yass Hospital and upgrade of the Braidwood Multipurpose Service.

A further $2.5 million is going towards the refurbishment of the Crookwell District Hospital and $150 million has been announced for a new health facility in Eurobodalla.
