Across NSW, more than 95 per cent of people aged 16 and over have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 93.9 per cent have received two doses to Friday 21 January 2022.

Of people aged 12 to 15, 82.7 per cent have received a first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, and 78.4 per cent have received two doses. Of people aged 5 to 11, 26.5 per cent have received a first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

The total number of vaccines administered in NSW is now 15,195,267, with 4,697,581 doses administered by NSW Health to 8pm last night and 10,497,686 administered by the GP network, pharmacies and other providers to 11:59pm on Friday 21, January 2022.

Sadly, NSW Health is reporting the deaths of 34 people with COVID-19; 26 men and eight women.

Of the 34 people who died; one person was aged in their 40s, five people were aged in their 50s, five people were aged in their 60s, nine people were aged in their 70s, 10 people were aged in their 80s and four people were aged in their 90s. Older age is a significant risk factor for serious illness and death for COVID-19, particularly when combined with significant underlying health conditions.

Two people had received three doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, 23 people had received two doses, three people had received one dose and six people were not vaccinated.

Of the eight people who died aged under 65, six were men and two were women. Four of these people had received two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, one person had received one dose and three people were not vaccinated. Seven of these people had serious underlying health conditions.

Eleven people were from south western Sydney, four people were from western Sydney, four people were from south eastern Sydney, three people were from the Newcastle area, two people were from the Wollongong area, two people were from Sydney’s north west, two people were from the Northern Rivers region, one person was from northern Sydney, one person was from Sydney’s inner west, one person was from the Mid North Coast, one person was from the South Coast and one person was from the Riverina.

NSW Health expresses its sincere condolences to their loved ones. This brings the total number of COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,088.

There are currently 2,712 COVID-19 cases admitted to hospital, including 189 people in intensive care, 72 of whom require ventilation.

There were 20,324 positive test results (cases) notified to 8pm last night – including 6,704 positive rapid antigen tests (RATs) and 13,620 positive PCR tests.

Of the 6,704 positive RAT results, 6,165 of these positive tests were from the previous seven days. Please note there may be some cases included in these numbers where people have reported positive RATs on multiple days and/or where people have also had a positive PCR test during the same reporting period.

The 13,620 positive PCR results were returned from 76,672 PCR tests. Following further investigation, 275 COVID-19 cases detected by PCR tests have been excluded, bringing the total number of cases detected by PCR tests in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 748,995.

Of the 13,620 cases reported from PCR tests to 8pm last night, 2,620 are from Western Sydney Local Health District (LHD), 1,827 are from South Western Sydney (LHD), 1,671 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 1,268 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 1,110 are from Hunter New England LHD, 926 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 889 are from Sydney LHD, 675 are from Murrumbidgee LHD, 647 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 578 are from Western NSW LHD, 475 are from Central Coast LHD, 317 are from Northern NSW LHD, 205 are from Southern NSW LHD, 156 are from Mid North Coast LHD, 30 are from Far West LHD, 19 are from correctional settings and 207 are yet to be assigned to an LHD.

Of the 6,704 positive RATs reported, 925 are from South Western Sydney LHD, 829 are from Western Sydney LHD, 817 are from South Eastern Sydney LHD, 728 are from Northern Sydney LHD, 715 are from Hunter New England LHD, 575 are from Sydney LHD, 350 are from Central Coast LHD, 348 are from Illawarra Shoalhaven LHD, 315 are from Nepean Blue Mountains LHD, 270 are from Northern NSW LHD, 256 are from Mid North Coast LHD, 187 are from Western NSW LHD, 168 are from Murrumbidgee LHD, 117 are from Southern NSW LHD, 14 are from Far West LHD and 90 are yet to be assigned to an LHD.
