The Cooma-Monaro community will benefit from enhanced healthcare services with the new, purpose-built Ambulatory Care Centre opening at Cooma Hospital.

Minister for Regional Health Ryan Park said the opening of the Ambulatory Care Centre is a significant milestone, bringing the $26.6 million Cooma Hospital Redevelopment one step closer to completion.

“This new Centre brings together Community Nursing, Child and Family Health, Podiatry, Medical Specialist Clinics, and NSW Health Pathology services in one location," Mr Park said.

“Having these under the one roof will significantly enhance access to a range of health services for Cooma and the surrounding communities.

“It will now be easier for the community in Cooma to access high-quality healthcare, with a suite of services together under one roof."

The Ambulatory Care Centre includes:

  • Dedicated patient consult rooms
  • Pathology collection room
  • A new reception and patient waiting area
  • A large meeting room
  • New staff offices
  • Storage spaces.

Member for Monaro Minister Steve Whan said Ambulatory Care departments, Medical Specialist clinics and NSW Health Pathology Services all play a vital role in the provision of healthcare services.

“Consolidating a range of ambulatory and outpatient services will improve the ability of staff to deliver first-class care, and enhance the experience for patients," Mr Whan said.

“The dedicated doctors, nurses, health care practitioners and hospital staff at Cooma Hospital will use these new, well-equipped workspaces to continue to deliver outstanding care to the community.

“The opening of the Ambulatory Care Centre marks the latest milestone in the Cooma Hospital redevelopment, which has also included a new maternity unit and ED."

Minister Park said the construction of new accommodation units at Cooma Hospital is also on track.

“These units will provide new and visiting healthcare workers with fit for purpose self-contained temporary accommodation, which is a really important factor is attracting healthcare staff," Mr Park said.

“We know affordable, accessible, safe accommodation which is close to work is a key factor in not only attracting but keeping staff at our regional hospitals."

The units will be manufactured offsite and installed at the hospital from mid-2024 and are expected to become available to key workers in late 2024.
