As at 8pm, Thursday 16 April 2020, an additional 29 cases of COVID-19 have been diagnosed since 8pm 15 April, bringing the total to 2,926.

During that time, 4,988 people were tested, almost 1,800 mor​e tests compared to the previous 24 hours.

There are currently 217 COVID-19 cases being treated by NSW Health. This includes 26 people being treated in Intensive Care Units, with 19 of those requiring ventilators.

There have been no COVID-19 related deaths in the past 24 hours.

There have been 14 more confirmed cases of COVID-19 at the Anglicare Newmarch House aged care facility in Caddens, since yesterday, bringing the total to 29 cases (10 staff and 19 residents) as of 8pm 16 April. Visitor restrictions remain in place and contact tracing continues. An additional case has since been confirmed in a resident after the 8pm timeline and that case will be included in tomorrow’s COVID-19 update.

The source of the initial infection is under investigation. All residents and staff have been tested, with results pending. Confirmed cases currently have mild, or no symptoms.

Four additional cases on board the Ruby Princess have tested positive to COVID-19, bringing the total number of confirmed cases on board to 153 crew - there are 13 Ruby Princess crew members with COVID-19 in NSW Health facilities.

A 7-week-old baby boy has been confirmed as a COVID-19 case and is a family contact of known cases. The baby, who has only mild symptoms, was taken to a hospital in south-western Sydney for a precautionary assessment but he was not admitted. This family cluster is not currently linked to any other known clusters.

As an additional measure to protect patients, their families and staff, all NSW public hospital and health services now require staff and visitors to be screened on entry.

Screening involves temperature checks and questions seeking an individual’s potential for contact with a COVID-19 positive case. Staff will be screened daily.

NSW Health is alerting passengers who were close contacts on flights to monitor for symptoms, and contact their GP, but call ahead first, or call healthdirect on 1800 022 222, or visit a NSW Health COVID-19/Flu assessment clinic should they become unwell.
