How to use the Guide

All of Us is six ways of working and a starter pack of tools.

Here are a few ways to use the Guide.

- Review the Six ways of working to identify what you do already. And where to improve.
- Use the Plan questions to help you start a project, group or committee.
- Use the Essentials checklist before having an event or meeting.
- Use the Six ways of working to talk about what matters to the people you’re engaging.
- Test the Essentials checklist with the people you’re engaging: What matters most to them? Is anything missing?
- Use the Explore access and inclusion questions to make sure people are included.
Joining a new group can be scary. Knowing what to expect helps us feel safer and more included. You might:
- Share the Six ways of working with new members of your group or project.
- Talk about what each of the Six ways of working means to different people. And how you’ll make sure they happen in your project or committee. For example, you could use the Explore safety activity (or your own activity) to know what safety means to different people and then decide what to set up.
- Use the Explore access and inclusion questions to make sure people are included.
- Create a rough welcome video (here’s an example from the making of All of Us).
- Use the six ways of working to identify what’s going well. And where to improve.
- Use the Essentials checklist to benchmark what you’re already doing well.
- Use the Explore access and inclusion questions to benchmark where you’re doing inclusion well.
