Expression of interest: expanded scope of GP management of ADHD

Reforms are being introduced to expand access to ADHD management by strengthening the role of GPs in managing people with ADHD.

Thank you for your interest in participating in these reforms.

The information you provide will be used to ensure that NSW Health can contact you about the implementation of the reforms.

There is no obligation to complete additional training, and you can opt out at any point.

About the reforms

Tier 1 – Continuation prescribers

A patient’s regular GP is enabled to prescribe psychostimulant medicines (dexamfetamine, lisdexamfetamine, methylphenidate) following initiation and stabilisation by a paediatrician, psychiatrist or neurologist, regardless of age. This would also include minor dose adjustments. Continuation prescribers would require additional specific and accredited training.

Tier 2 – Endorsed prescribers

GPs would be supported to accurately diagnose and manage ADHD in children and adults (from age 6), including initiating, switching and increasing psychostimulant medicines. Endorsed prescribers would require additional specific and accredited training with a child and adolescent, or adult focus.
