The Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022 passed through NSW Parliament on 19 May 2022. The legislation will come into effect from 28 November 2023 after an 18-month implementation period.
NSW Health will plan for and implement voluntary assisted dying in NSW and will provide ongoing information to the community.
The Voluntary Assisted Dying legislation has many safeguards to ensure voluntary assisted dying is safe, accessible and appropriate. NSW Health will provide ongoing information to health practitioners.
The Voluntary Assisted Dying Board will have important advisory and decision-making functions when voluntary assisted dying becomes available in NSW on 28 November 2023.
