The EDWAT is a workforce planning tool designed to support workforce and skill mix planning in Emergency Departments in NSW.
The second edition includes 2009-2010 Emergency Department data and has been updated in response to the evaluation of edition 1.
The EDWAT is the result of a literature review and research project conducted on the workforce of emergency departments.
NSW Health commissioned the University of Sydney, School of Public Health to produce The Literature Review of Emergency Department Staffing Redesign Framework. The review includes existing Australian and international literature which looks at staffing of emergency departments.
Further to the literature review, the publication on the Emergency Department Workforce Research Project - Final Report details the project background, methodology and outcomes. It includes Principles and Guidelines that can be adapted to the individual circumstances of emergency departments.
The output of the EDWAT is a prioritised list of strategies required to address skill mix issues.
