Step 1: Access the workbook​

Access your Future Health Worldbuilding Competition wo​rkbook. Follow these instructions if you're joining as a team.

The workbook will help you imagine possible futures and prepare your creative piece. The workbook forms part of your final entry, and has compulsory and optional worksheets designed to help build your world.

Working in a team? You can only submit one workbook for your group.

Step 2: Watch the competition videos

You can watch the competition videos to get a visual guide for submitting your best entry. The videos have information that will help you dream big and design a future health system you would want for your family and friends.

Whether you love drawing, writing, coding, or just dreaming big, watch the videos to see how you can get involved in the competition.

  • Welcome - this video introduces the competition and details the steps you must take to submit an eligible entry.
  • Worldbuilding -What even is "Worldbuilding"? Watch this video to find out! And learn about the Futures Cone - a tool that will help you to think about Possible, Plausible, Probable, and Preferable futures.
  • Introduction to Futures Thinking tools - looking for a window into the future that can help build your world? In this video, learn about the future thinking tools that will help the future emerge in front of you.
  • Three Horizons - one tool we use in futures, is the Three Horizons. In this video, see how a simple Futures Thinking tool can help us to bridge the gaps between our current and future health systems, and how you can promote change.
  • Megatrends -megatrends are made up of the trends, signals and information points from the scanning and research we do as a team. Learn about the megatrends that are expected to influence the NSW Health system over the next 15 years.​

Step 3: Consider your world and complete the ‘Must-do’ activities

This the step where you get started on building your future health system. We’ve done some of the research for you just to help get started!

Must-do activities

'Must-do' activities need to be filled in to be eligible for judging. These tools will will help you think deeply about your future world, and what we can learn from how we do things today.

  • Three Horizons helps to see where we are now, what new ideas are emerging, and the distant future.
  • STEEPV helps you think through the social, technological, environmental, economical, political and the values of your future world
  • Persona shows and tells us about a health professional or patient who lives in your future world.

 

Dive deeper and complete ‘Could-do’ activities

Could-do activities will help you think about your future world in different ways and may help you create a more detailed future world.

Complete the activites to help think deeply about your future world:

  • The 2x2 matrix is a simple grid that clashes two big ideas or changes together. This will create "scenarios" that help you think about what might happen in the future.
  • Backcasting is imagining the perfect future and working back to now so you don't need to guess what might happen.
  • The Moonshot activity about thinking 10 times bigger than you normally would to inspire amazing new solutions to huge problems.

Step 4: Get to know NSW Health professionals

Health professionals will help people who are sick, but they’ll also help people stay healthy. Future health professionals may use data and technology to spot problems early, even before you feel symptoms.

Hear what innovations Dean, Lil, and Nicola think might help them and other professionals take care of future patients.

Get the inside word from other NSW Health professionals on what they think the future of health should look like.​

Step 5: ​Build your world – get creative!

Collect your activities, templates, and ideas and start building your future health system. Your creative piece can be in any format.
