ARF is most commonly diagnosed in people between the ages of 5-14 years.
RHD is most commonly diagnosed in females between the ages of 25-34 years. RHD is not currently notifiable in people aged 35 year and older in NSW.
The majority of people diagnosed with ARF (75%) and RHD (60%) were born in Australia.
A notification rate is a way of measuring how often a health condition is reported in a population group over time. The highest notification rate for ARF (1.23 per 100,000 people) was in people living in Northern NSW Local Health District (LHD). The highest notification rate for RHD in people less than 35 years was also in Northern NSW LHD (0.89 per 100,000 people).
