Dengue viruses are mainly spread by two types of mosquitoes. Travellers are at risk if they visit areas that have the mosquitoes capable of transmitting dengue.

Travellers should review the on the map of dengue risk areas but also note that a lack of recent reports of dengue in an area does not always indicate that no transmission is occurring, particularly in areas where dengue viruses are known to be endemic.
