Outcomes for both multidrug-resistant (MDR)1 and non-MDR tuberculosis cases in ​​​NSW, 2024

The majority of TB cases successfully completed TB treatment in 2024 (86%). The treatment outcome is unable to be assessed when people transfer overseas (4% of cases), and a small number of cases die from causes not related to TB while on treatment (2% of cases).

Cont​​act investigation outcomes from TB pulmonary smear positive cases diagnosed in NSW, 2025​​​​2​

There were 2017 contacts identified in NSW in 2025 from TB pulmonary smear positive cases, 68​​% of those completed contact screening for TB.

  1. Includes all MDR (multi-drug resistance), pre-XDR (pre-extensivel​y drug resistance), and XDR (extensively drug resistance) cases reported in 2024 (if applicable)​. 
  2. This reports on contacts tracing on the most infectious cases. More contact tracing was done but it is not reported here​​.​​
