Discontinuation of Sublocade from the NSW Opioid Treatment Program

There are currently two medication options for long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB) in the NSW Opioid Treatment Program (OTP), Buvidal (weekly or monthly injections) and Sublocade (monthly injections), which provide extended-release buprenorphine as an alternate treatment to daily methadone or sublingual buprenorphine.

The manufacturer of Sublocade (Indivior) has made the commercial decision to discontinue supply of Sublocade to Australia from 31 December 2026. This decision is not related to evidence of safety or efficacy concerns.

Below are some key dates regarding ordering and final PBS claims

  • Stock will remain available and final orders will be accepted until 11 December 2026 to support patient care.
  • PBS claims for Sublocade may be made until 31 December 2026, subject to applicable PBS requirements

Indivior have advised that anyone with remaining Sublocade stock will be refunded.
