Finalist: Excellence in Multicultural Healthcare Award
The Increasing Vaccination Access for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Communities on the Central Coast (I-VACCCC) project addresses vaccination barriers faced by culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities. The project provides targeted education and vaccination services at TAFEs, residential aged care facilities and a Multicultural Expo community event.
In 2024, the project delivered 15 education sessions to 302 participants across more than 21 languages. This was followed by vaccination clinics that administered 271 vaccinations. The project employed both face-to-face and telephone healthcare interpreters to overcome language barriers, while providing health screening and immunisation record updates.
By combining cultural education with access to free vaccination services, I-VACCCC built community trust while addressing public health needs. The initiative also created sustainable pathways connecting CALD community members to ongoing vaccine services through public health units.
