About this guide

The NSW Health centralised Radiation Therapy Graduate Recruitment process means you can apply to multiple facilities with one application. To understand your preferred work facilities, you will be asked for your preferences in order of where you most want to work. These facility preferences across NSW Health will be used to match candidates fairly to their preferred facilities in line with their overall application and assessment.

This guide explains how your preferences will be collected and used, how to rank and submit your preferred facilities, how the matching process works and what possible outcomes may mean for you.

When do I provide my preferred facilities?

You will be asked to provide your preferred facilities if you are shortlisted for interview.

A link to complete the facility preference ranking form in Microsoft Forms will be sent to you via email.

How do I provide my preferred facilities?

You will provide your preferred work facilities by completing the facility preference ranking form.

You will select your preferred facilities from a drop-down list and rank them in order. You must choose at least one facility, but you can rank all available facilities. We encourage you to preference as many facilities as you are willing to work. This may increase your opportunities for employment with NSW Health. You can refer to this page for information on participating facilities.

What if I don't want to work at a particular facility?

Only preference facilities where you are willing to work and accept a position. If you would not be prepared to accept a role at a facility, do not select it and leave that preference blank.

What if I am open to working at any facility?

Please rank all available facilities in order of preference. This will help us understand your preferred order so we can consider them during the preference matching process.

Can I select the same facility multiple times?

No. Whilst the preference collection form will allow for the same facility to be selected more than once, you should not select the same facility multiple times. Duplicate preferences do not increase your chances of being offered a position. We recommend preferencing each facility where you are willing and able to work to give you the best chance of an offer at one of these facilities.

Who will see my preferred facilities?

Your preferences will only be used after your application and interview have been assessed. Hiring managers will not see your preferences and will not use them when assessing your application or interview.

An independent reviewer will use your preferences to match successful applicants to available roles. This keeps your preferences separate from the assessment process and helps protect your confidentiality.

Can I change my preferred facilities once submitted?

Preference matching starts straight after interviews. Your submitted preferences will be used during the matching and offer process. Any final changes to preferences must be submitted by the date communicated via email by editing the Microsoft Forms.

How many offers can I receive?

You can only receive one offer from this recruitment process.

What happens if I decline an offer from this recruitment process?

If you decline an offer from a facility that you previously indicated you were willing to work at on your preference form, you will be withdrawn from the process and will not receive any further offers.

How does preference matching work?

Suitable candidates are matched to available positions based on their overall ranking in the recruitment process and the facility preferences they have submitted. This approach aims to place candidates at one of their preferred facilities, while ensuring are available positions are allocated fairly.

Candidates are matched in ranked order. Higher-ranked candidates matched first; the process continues until all suitable candidates have been matched, or all positions are filled.

Applicant 3: Chan

  • 1st preference: Western Sydney
  • 2nd preference: Illawarra Shoalhaven
  • Facility match: Illawarra Shoalhaven

Applicant 4: Damien

Applicant 5: Emily

  • 1st preference: Illawarra Shoalhaven
  • 2nd preference: Central Coast
  • 3rd preference: Nepean Blue Mountains
  • 4th preference: Western NSW
  • 5th preference: Northern NSW
  • Facility match: Nepean Blue Mountains

Applicant 6: Fatima

  • 1st preference: Nepean Blue Mountains
  • 2nd preference: Central Coast
  • 3rd preference: Western Sydney
  • 4th preference: Illawarra Shoalhaven
  • Facility match: Placed on eligibility list

Note: This is a simplified example where each facility has only one available position.

Using the example above:

  • Andrew was ranked 1st and received his 1st preference (Western Sydney)
  • Brooke was ranked 2nd and received her 1st preference (Central Coast)
  • Chan was ranked 3rd. Their 1st preference was already filled, so they were matched to their next available preference (Illawarra Shoalhaven)
  • Damien was ranked 4th.  His 1st preference was already filled and he had no other preferences. Since he was suitable for employment, he was placed on the e-list.
  • Emily was ranked 5th. Her 1st and 2nd preferences were already filled, so she was matched to her next available preference (Nepean Blue Mountains)
  • Fatima was ranked 6th. All her preferences were already filled. Since she was suitable for employment, she was placed on the e-list.

What happens if I get matched?

If you are successfully matched, you will receive an offer from that facility. Please note that:

  • You can only receive one offer.
  • You have 3 days to accept or decline your offer.

What happens if I decline an offer?

If you decline an offer, you will be withdrawn from the recruitment program and will not be eligible another offer. Declining an offer indicates that you do not wish to proceed with a position in this recruitment process.

What happens if I am not matched to a position?

If you are not matched to a position during the initial preference matching process, you may be placed on an eligibility list. This can occur when:

  • All available positions at your preferred locations have already been allocated.
  • There are more eligible candidates than available positions.

What is an eList?

An eligibility list (eList) is a list of candidates who have been assessed as suitable for employment but could not be matched to a position within their nominated preferences during the preference matching process.

Being placed on the eList means you remain eligible for future opportunities for up to 18 months. If additional positions become available during this period, you may be considered for these roles, including opportunities at facilities you did not originally preference.

Using the example above:

  • Damien was ranked 4th and assessed suitable for employment.
  • However, no positions remained within his nominated preferences. Higher ranked candidates had been allocated to his nominated preferences.
  • As a result, Damien was placed on the eList and may be considered for future positions

What if I am unsuccessful in the recruitment process?

You will receive notification to advise you that you have not been successful for employment with NSW Health in this recruitment process.

If you are unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek feedback from the selection panel/convenor as soon as you receive formal advice of this. This feedback can help you understand the selection panel's decision and to discuss ways in which you may improve future applications or interview performance.
