Other news - September 2015

In May, June and July 2015, NSW Health issued advice about:

• The risk of blood borne virus transmission related to four Sydney dental practices, see: Control Breaches in Sydney Dental Practices (2 July 2015)
• The need for continued surveillance following the outbreak of MERS in the Republic of Korea, see: Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV) Alert (27 July 2015)
• The Global Ebola situation, see: Ebola virus disease (EVD) (27 July 2015)

During May, June and July 2015, the Communicable Diseases Branch reported:

• The commencement of the influenza season and predominance of influenza B
• MERS-CoV alert issued and situation updates
• New cases of Leptospirosis, Hepatitis A, Hendra, Haemolytic Uraemic Syndrome (HUS), Haemophilus influenzae type b disease, Pertussis, Hepatitis D, Invasive meningococcal disease, Tetanus, Measles in an unvaccinated traveller and Mumps in an unvaccinated child
• NSW update on Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and results from a randomised clinical trial which supports early treatment of HIV
• NSW update on Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
• Ebola virus disease (EVD) update – Liberia declared Ebola-free
• An Australian Bat Lyssavirus (ABLV) positive bat reported and new cases of Brucellosis, with pig-hunting as a risk factor
• Legionnaires’ Disease in a returned traveller from Anzac commemorations in Europe
