Children Young People and Families Executive Steering Committee (CYPFESC)

The CYPFESC met on 6 June 2023. Committee discussion was focused on the CYPFESC work plan and priorities for the next 12 months. Also, the Committee considered delivery of actions in the Henry Review Implementation Plan (HRIP), NSW Neonatal and Paediatric Intensive Care Services (PICNIC) Implementation Plan and delivery of the Henry Review recommendations. Progress will be detailed in the CYPFESC Annual Report due for release in July 2023.

The meeting opened with a patient story about Harry, who receives care from the care coordination pilot in Southern NSW LHD. The video was produced by the RuralKids GPS team, which is a Paediatric Priority Funded Project. The project has enabled Harry to receive some of his care closer to home allowing more time with his family.

CYPFESC priorities

The NSW children and young people's health system is complex. There are many parts of NSW Health working to deliver and improve high quality healthcare for children, young people and their families. CYPFESC is developing a work plan to help the committee focus on priority areas where the Committee has a unique role in championing and influencing system improvements in this complex system. The Committee considered suggested work plan priorities and actions for the next 12 months. A final work plan will be agreed in August 2023.

Monitoring and reporting

Significant work has progressed to deliver the 68 HRIP actions and the 40 PICNIC Implementation Plan actions. In summary 21 HRIP actions (30%) have been delivered, and 37 HRIP actions (54%) have commenced and are on track. Also, 21 PICNIC actions (52%) have been delivered. CYPFESC will continue to monitor actions yet to be completed as well as the impact of delivered projects and activities. The CYPFESC Annual Report will provide a comprehensive update on delivery of the Henry Review recommendations, HRIP and PICNIC Action Plan.

Review of the Children's Healthcare Network

Following the review of the Children's Healthcare Network (CHN), in May 2023, the Ministry of Health, together with the Agency for Clinical Innovation, held a workshop with CHN staff. The findings of the review and opportunities to strengthen support for children's services were discussed. ACI is progressing next steps including further communication.
