A mental health consumer is a person who has a lived experience of a mental illness or mental disorder. They can also be a person who is receiving treatment from a mental health service, either voluntarily or involuntarily.

The NSW Government has funded BEING - Mental Health Consumers Inc. to develop the Mental Health and Your Rights resources. These resources aim to assist mental health consumers to better understand their rights under the Mental Health Act 2007, and how to exercise those rights.
