Orders and exemptions - Poisons and Therapeutic Goods legislation

​Certain sections of the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Act and certain clauses of the Poisons and Therapeutic Goods Regulation have provision for the Minister for Health or the Secretary of Health to issue an order, approval or exemption. Usually these have the effect of permitting certain activities which the legislation would otherwise prohibit. In other cases they establish certain protocols or standards for act​ivities envisaged by the legislation. In some cases the legislation requires the order, approval or exemption to be published in the NSW Government Gazette. Listed here are some recently issued orders and exemptions which are of particular interest to the public. This list is not exhaustive.

• Authority Class of Persons to prescribe dexamfetamine, lisdexamfetamine and methylphenidate for the treatment of ADHD (dated 31 October 2023)
