The NSW Pharmacy Trial was a large-scale research study that enabled appropriately trained community pharmacists to provide selected services under defined trial conditions. The Trial was designed to assess patient safety and the clinical outcomes of pharmacist-led models of care.
The Trial included three phases:
These services were delivered under strict clinical protocols and governance arrangements, with data collected to assess patient safety and support a comprehensive independent evaluation.
The NSW Pharmacy Trial was independently led and evaluated by the University of Newcastle in association with partner organisations.
The evaluation reports are independently authored academic reports. The findings and conclusions are those of the authors and do not represent a policy position of NSW Health.
The final independent evaluation report for the management of uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) and the resupply of the oral contraceptive pill (OCP) have now been completed, published and are available at the University of Newcastle’s website.
