Workforce modelling is the process of mapping the current and forecasted labour pool for a specialty or award-based workforce against projected health service workforce demand.

This section provides a brief description and scope of practice for the allied health workforce and the assessment and treatments provided by the profession. It may also cover the value the profession brings to the people of NSW.

Workforce characteristics for NSW Health workforce in 2040

This section provides a profile of what the NSW Health profession is projected to have in 2040 based on the workforce model.

This is the estimated workforce demand (low to high) for the workforce in 2040 and is represented by a percentage growth.

Demand scenarios outline if any additional allied health workforce are required to achieve projected 2040 requirements.

Career opportunities

These icons represent the anticipated career opportunities for the relevant workforce. This is useful for career advisors and prospective students.

Career opportunity rating are based on the required increase to junior entrant positions:

  • limited – no increase
  • reasonable – a required increase in annual intake to junior entrant positions of up to 50%
  • significant – an increase of more than 50%.

This section provides information on estimates for workforce demand growth required to meet future service requirements based on current models of care. It provides a profile of the workforce utilising a low and high demand scenario. This creates a window that local health districts and specialty health networks could use to project and conduct workforce planning.

Practitioners may work across both metropolitan and non-metropolitan local health districts and will be shown in both sections. This means that adding metropolitan and non-metropolitan headcounts will double count these practitioners and result in a figure higher than the state total.
