Finalist: Keeping People Healthy Award
Maternity Open Days across South Western Sydney Local Health District are helping families make informed decisions and access the care they need for healthier pregnancies.
Held across five sites, the events connected over 1,400 consumers with maternity services, built trust, and strengthened relationships between communities and care teams.
Consumer feedback showed, relationships between communities were strengthened and women and their support people were connected with information they and their babies need to be healthy. The Maternity Open Days provided a valuable opportunity to show the breadth of disciplines and services involved in maternity care. They offered women and families an in-depth understanding of the pathways and supports available throughout pregnancy, birth, and their child’s first 2,000 days of life, while also increasing familiarity with the birthing unit and ensuring accessibility of services. The events fostered teamwork and collaboration, breaking down barriers across disciplines and strengthening connections between staff and services.
This initiative is the first of its kind in NSW and is being used in other hospitals across the state.
