NSW HIV Strategy 2026-2030

Summary

The NSW HIV Strategy 2026-2030 lays the foundation for achieving the virtual elimination of HIV transmission in NSW. The Strategy focuses on four pillars: prevention, testing, treatment, and stigma and discrimination.

Developed in partnership with community organisations, clinicians, researchers and people most affected by HIV, the Strategy sets out a coordinated, evidence‑based approach to further reduce transmission and support people living with HIV to live long, healthy lives.

The goals of the Strategy are to:

  • Prevent HIV transmission by promoting safe behaviours and expanding access to condoms, PrEP, PEP and sterile injecting equipment.
  • Normalise HIV testing for people at risk and improve access to testing.
  • Start and maintain treatment soon after diagnosis to maximise individual health outcomes and prevent onward transmission.
  • Reduce stigma and discrimination as a barrier to prevention, testing and treatment.
