In the Needle and Syringe Program (NSP), primary, secondary and pharmacy outlets serve different roles:
- Primary NSP outlets are dedicated facilities where trained staff offer a wide range of services, including health education, referrals to other health and community services, and distribution of injecting equipment. These outlets are often located in community health centres or hospitals.
- Secondary NSP outlets are part of other health or community services. They provide a limited range of injecting equipment and disposal services and may refer clients to primary NSP outlets for more comprehensive support.
- Pharmacy NSP outlets sell Fitpacks or exchange used Fitpacks free of charge under the NSW Pharmacy Fitpack Scheme.
In the interactive map above, primary NSP outlets are shown in blue stars, secondary NSP outlets are shown in red diamonds and pharmacy NSP outlets are shown in yellow circles.
