Transcript of A Childhood Cancer National Precision Medicine Program

Assoc Prof David Ziegler: I’d like to begin by acknowleding the traditional custodians of the lands on which we gather and pay respects to their elders past and present.

The driving force behind our program was really to improve outcomes for children with the most aggressive and the most difficult to treat cancers, to see if we can identify new genetic targets and new treatments.

Through our ZERO Childhood Cancer Program, we have opened up a trial that is available in every childhood cancer centre in Australia and we’re actually able to make a finding for over 70 per cent of patients.

In 30 per cent of patients, we’re seeing their tumours shrink, and in another 40 per cent of patients we’re seeing the tumour stop growing, with prolonged stable disease.
