Transcript of Keeping Staff Safe: Reducing Needlestick Injuries - Hunter New England Local Health District

Lyn Lovell: We’re filming today in Hunter, New England, and I would like to begin by acknowledging the traditional custodians of the land on which we gather and pay my respects to the elders past and present.

Jillian Martnelli: The driving force behind this initiative was the safety of our healthcare workers. So in Hunter New England Health, there was a significant risk of needle stick injuries from our healthcare workers.

Jenny Greig: The solution to our concern for the project was to introduce mandatory use of safety engineered sharps devices.

Trish Robertson:Our project has resulted in a 60 per cent reduction in needle stick exposures from implementation for each calendar year.
