Transcript of Connections in the Far West – Far West Local Health District

Chelsea Edwards: Today, we’re meeting in Broken Hill in the Far West Local Health District and we’d like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land in which we are meeting.

Leanne Ryan: The Connections Program came about because we noticed a huge intake into the hospital and most of it was through social isolation and people were just lonely.

The solutions are, we ran an after-hours program where people can turn up and make connections. Some of the key achievements that we’ve seen through the Connections Program is a reduction in the isolation of people in our community.

From a health perspective, we’ve also seen a reduction in bed days.
