Clinical placements are essential to preparing medical students for internship. NSW Health’s evaluation of the Assistant in Medicine (AiM) program found that students transition more confidently and effectively when they are welcomed as active members of clinical teams and have a clearly defined scope of practice.
Clear expectations about what students can do, the skills they should demonstrate, and how they contribute to patient care improves learning, reduces uncertainty for supervisors, and supports safe, high-quality training.
