NSW respiratory surveillance reports - COVID-19 and influenza

Public health experts carefully review case information and monitor local testing rates to understand the incidence, severity, and distribution of COVID-19 and influenza in NSW.

View all NSW respiratory surveillance reports or further information about Influenza notifications in NSW residents.

NSW sewage surveillance

The NSW Sewage Surveillance Program samples 22 sites throughout NSW on a weekly basis. These sites were selected for their population size, geographical spread, proximity to state borders and transport routes and for the presence of vulnerable communities. Now that COVID is widespread in the community, the focus of the program has changed from early warning to monitoring of trends to supplement information gathered through PCR and Rapid Antigen Testing.

This week includes data for the 7 days ending 4pm 01 December 2022. Last week includes data to the week ending 4pm 24 November 2022. Numbers of cases are based on date of notification to NSW Health. COVID-19 related deaths are notified to NSW Health from a range of sources and not all deaths reported by NSW Health occurred in the week in which they are reported, as there is sometimes a delay between a death occurring and it being notified to NSW Health.
