Southern NSW Local Health District

Caroline Skidmore from Southern NSW Local Health DistrictObserving Caroline undertaking her volunteer role with the Dementia and Delirium Program at Queanbeyan Hospital demonstrates excellence. Her caring nature and natural ability to connect with patients, families, carers, other volunteers and staff makes it clear to see why she is so perfect for this role.

Caroline provides each and every patient with time and her complete attention. Whether it is playing a game, reading, helping with meals or just talking with them, you can see the difference she makes. She is thoughtful and takes time to understand what level of support the patient needs and responds accordingly.

Caroline uses the Daisy Tool, a template that provides categories to conversation, as a way to get to know the patient without intruding and develops stimulating conversations. She makes each and every patient feel incredibly valued, providing some light relief and distraction from their illness.
