Nurse - When I see a patient responding to my treatment, I feel like my job is very meaningful and it's very rewarding. It's making a difference in their life, and that's what us nurses are here for.

Jacqui Cross, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, NSW Health - Our nurses are there 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And they touch all parts of the care that we provide to our patients in a really complex system. I really truly believe that our nurses are the glue that holds everything together. And a big part of that is the compassion.

Nurse - My experience of working in nursing has totally defined my life.

Nurse -  I like knowing that I can make a difference. You know, if someone says thank you, at the end of the consult, you know that you've done the best for them, and made them feel kind of welcomed, and appreciated, and heard.

Jacqui Cross - We often talk about the art and the science of nursing, and it's a bit of a delicate dance. And when it comes together and it's interwoven that's the true essence of decent care.

Nurse - I began my nursing career at 17 years of age, ever since that day one, I continue to love it.

Jacqui Cross - If I think about the last 12 months, some of the words that come to mind for me are innovation, celebration, commitment, and courage.

Nurse - We're just wanting to do your heel dressing, if that's okay.

Nurse - I'm going to take it up to 8.5.

Nurse - It's always been a very rewarding job, and yeah, it's given me heaps of opportunities.

Nurse - I've followed my dream and I'm living my dream, I guess that's why I'm proud to be a nurse.

Jacqui Cross - So to all of the nurses in NSW, whether you're working in our rural areas, our communities, our acute care areas, the whole gamut of services that we provide, whether you're brand new to us, you're just starting off your new grad year, if you've been around a little bit longer. I really hope that they can find a way to celebrate their commitment.

Nurse - And bend that elbow for me, bud. That's it, perfect.

Nurse - So Robin, we're just going to take you down to the transit lounge, okay.

Nurse - Mental health support line, Louse speaking, can I help you?

Jacqui Cross - I think from a nursing point of view, we often find it really hard to talk about what it is we do, and how we do that. And we'll bring it down to certain skills or things that we perform. I think the real magic of nursing is actually how we weave that all together, and actually bring that in a human kind of way, so that human connection. So they actually hold things together in a whole lot of ways that they don't even recognise on a day-to-day basis. They're things that we just do, sometimes intuitively, but they're really, really important. I want to say a very big thank you, and Happy International Nurses Day.

Nurse - Spread those fingers out like a big star, don't let me push them in, excellent.
