Research impact assessments evaluate the extent to which research undertaken or funded by NSW Health have impacted on policy, practice and health outcomes. A research impact assessment may also assess the economic benefits generated from the research for patients, the health system or the wider community.

One methodology which is used for undertaking research impact assessments is the Framework to Assess the Impact from Translational health research (FAIT). This method has been developed by the Hunter Medical Research Institute (HMRI) and enables the translation and impact of research to be measured and reported.
