Transcript of GradStart nurses.

Rhiannon, new grad nurse - I'm Rhiannon, I am a new grad here at Prince of Wales. I've been on the Cardiology ward for about two weeks now.

Asha, new grad nurse - I've been working as an anesthetic nurse for eight months.

Christine, new grad nurse - I've only been a few weeks into it, but what I can see from those at the end of GradStart is they are like pros and that for me is very inspiring.

Jacqui Cross, Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer, NSW Health - You need to think about it in terms of a whole journey in your career and the GradStart is the very beginning of your introduction to NSW Health and how we support you through that.

Tara, new grad nurse - I have been a GradStart nurse for nearly 12 months and I'm about to graduate. I definitely feel a sense of achievement looking back to see where I started now one year on. I know that I have built many clinical skills as well as confidence in communicating with people.

Jacqui Cross - There's a real focus on how we support our graduate nurses and midwives as they come into the health system to actually really hone in those nursing skills and be part of a unique community as well and all the wonderful things that that brings.

Anouk, new grad nurse - On my way to work, I mostly look forward to seeing my coworkers and having just little moments throughout the day where you see patients or their parents be grateful for our work. Do you have a favourite color? Yeah, what's your favourite color? Aqua? That's a good one.

The things that are really particular to the GradStart program where we all come together for about an hour and we just, we have educational sessions or we do debriefs or a bit of both or just tips on resilience and self-care, it's really nice.

Olivia, new grad nurse - I'm a scrub scout in theatres, and I've been a new grad for almost 12 months. It feels surreal, but I'm actually just very proud of myself and I just, I can't believe that I made it this far in one year. I feel like I've learned a lot.

Sean, new grad nurse - Good morning, Lori.

Lori, patient - Good morning.

Sean - How are you today?

Lori - Fabulous.

Sean - Yeah, I think for me GradStart has meant opportunity.

I'll let you finish your breakfast. I'll come and help you downstairs to your appointment, okay? I'll see you a bit later.

Lori - Thank you very much.

Sean - That's okay, Lori.

Lori - Good one.

Sean - I think it's been a very positive learning experience. There's been lots of support. The senior nurses are always very supportive, checking in how I'm going and it's one of the benefits of new grad.

Good job. Okay, I'll go get you your pain medication.

Olivia - Sorry. I know.

Asha - I think nursing is easier than speaking on the camera, I think. It is, it is.

Remy, new grad nurse - What I'm most grateful for is my coworkers, my educators, my managers, but definitely the patients actually. When you see the smile on their face, I'm like, you feel a sense of satisfaction.

Jacqui Cross - We really want to set the tone of what we expect, but what you can expect from us as well. If I think back to my 30-odd years ago when I started as a new graduate nurse, the people who took me under their wing have stayed with me my entire career.

Rhiannon - I'm definitely proud to be able to make a significant impact in the community and provide support and help for those who need it.

Tara - I think GradStart is a perfect opportunity to start your nursing career. There's lots of support and you will learn a lot.

Jacqui Cross - I can't think of anything better as a nurse to actually help to shape and influence somebody in a way that's going to be positive and that they'll carry throughout their entire career.

Asha - We get an opportunity to explore and see things.

Sean - I think more people should do it.

Rhiannon - Do it.

Asha - I'm glad you're with me.
