The purpose of this privacy statement is to tell you what kind of information we may gather about you, how we may use that information, whether we disclose it to anyone, and the choices you have regarding our use of, and your ability to correct this information. Our goal is to provide you with a useful and informative experience and to give you information about who to contact if you have any questions or concerns about our online services.
This privacy statement applies to the Single Digital Patient Record Implementation Authority (SDPRIA). It explains how information may be collected, used, stored and disclosed when you interact with health services. The collection, use and disclosure of personal and health information is managed in accordance with applicable privacy legislation and NSW Health policies.
The SDPRIA has been established to lead the implementation of the Single Digital Patient Record (SDPR). It is focused on a whole-of-health, collaborative approach, ensuring the program benefits from the strengths of NSW Health. It is accountable for achieving efficiency and maximum value from the resources available and ultimately delivering SDPR while ensuring patients and people remain at the core of its delivery.
The SDPR program is delivering a statewide integrated Electronic Medical Record (eMR), Patient Administration System (PAS) and Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to 228 public hospitals, 600+ community health centres, 60 pathology laboratories and 150+ pathology collection centres, replacing several existing systems that are widely used across NSW Health services.
The SDPR meets strict government standards for data protection. NSW Health has policies and procedures in place, which provide that patient records must only be accessed, when there is a lawful reason to do so. You can feel confident knowing your privacy is protected every step of the way.

Personal information is information or an opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent or can reasonably be ascertained. Examples of personal information include a person's name, address, telephone number, date of birth and other identifying details.
Health information is personal information and clinical information relating to an individual. Typically, this is all the information contained in a patient’s health record, including the patient’s name and contact details as well as information about an individual's physical or mental health, disability, healthcare, treatment or other matters connected with the provision of a health service.
Such information is handled in accordance with the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW) as well as relevant NSW Health policies and the Public Interest Direction (SDPR PID) which allows NSW Health and others to use SDPR information in certain ways.
The SDPR PID is a formal direction made by the NSW Privacy Commissioner. It recognises the public benefit of the SDPR and allows NSW Health and certain agencies to access, use and share your information within the SDPR in ways that support the operation of a shared patient record.
The SDPR PID allows information recorded in the SDPR to be made available to the SDPR Agencies through a single shared health record, helping to support continuity of care and reduce the need for you to provide the same information multiple times.

The collection, access, use, disclosure and management of information within the SDPR is subject to applicable legislation and NSW Health policies, including the Health Records and Information Privacy Act 2002 (NSW); and the NSW Health Privacy Manual for Health Information.
The SDPR enables authorised users to access information for healthcare and other purposes authorised by law. The SDPRIA does not collect, use or disclose health information outside these requirements. Access is restricted to authorised users and is monitored and auditable
