Single Digital Patient Record now live across Hunter New England LHD

The Single Digital Patient Record is now in use across Hunter New England Local Health District and NSW Health Pathology Hunter New England sites.

The Single Digital Patient Record is now being used at Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD) Justice Health NSW and NSW Health Pathology HNE sites, marking a milestone step in a state-wide healthcare transformation journey.

The Single Digital Patient Record is set to transform how people experience and deliver healthcare across NSW Health by bringing patients’ health information together in one secure place, making healthcare more connected and seamless across the state.

This means that when a patient visits any NSW health service, our clinicians and healthcare teams will have access to the right information, at the right time, when it matters most.

For Hunter New England Local Health District in addition to Justice Health NSW and NSW Health Pathology HNE sites, the completion of this go-live brings about a change for 23,000 staff across 26 hospitals ranging from rural and referral hospitals, to community, tertiary referral and district hospitals across 25 diverse Local Government Areas.

Staff across these areas are responsible for caring for more than 970,000 people per year across a diversity of settings, including 11 laboratories and more than 100 community, patient and custodial settings.

The program will continue to be introduced in tranches, with the Single Digital Patient Record expected to be operational across all NSW Health local health districts and specialty health networks by the end of 2028.

The delivery of the program is focused on a whole-of-health, collaborative approach. Clinicians, patients, carers, consumers, and technical experts are involved and helping shape it. This is important for making sure the Single Digital Patient Record meets the needs of those who use it and supports the delivery of high-quality care.

This achievement reflects the significant work undertaken by all teams across NSW Health to prepare systems, infrastructure and staff for the transition to this exciting once-in-a-generation change.

Thank you to all the amazing staff in the Hunter New England Local Health District, Justice Health NSW, NSW Health Pathology, Single Digital Patient Record Implementation Authority and eHealth NSW and across the whole of NSW Health and technology partners who have enabled us to reach this milestone.
