NSW Ambulance is committed to providing high quality clinical care and health related transport services to over 7.5 million people in NSW. During 2016/17, NSW Ambulance answered approximately 3,074 triple zero (000) calls every day; an average of one call every 28 seconds. In undertaking this complex and diverse work, NSW Ambulance acknowledges the importance of collaboration through partnerships with local health districts, specialty health networks, Non-Emergency Transport and the pillars. These partnerships are crucial to ensuring that models and processes are supporting optimal patient outcomes, patient flow, demand management and financial efficiency.

Traditionally, paramedics have had limited destination and referral options for their patients. Recently however, NSW Ambulance has strengthened its ability for paramedics to assess, treat and/or refer patients to health care more tailored to the patient’s needs, helping to improve sustainability and patient care within the health system. This has led to a shift from a transactional relationship to more of a collaborative relationship with other health care providers.
