RAID-ED Implementation Toolkit

Model of Care

The Rapid Assessment, Intervention and Discharge - Emergency Department (RAID-ED) model embeds a transdisciplinary allied health team within Emergency Departments to deliver early allied health-initiated assessment, intervention and discharge planning. The model was originally developed, implemented and evaluated by Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD).

The RAID-ED model has demonstrated positive outcomes in NSW, including improved ED performance and reduced inpatient bed utilisation. Evidence from existing services demonstrates that RAID-ED:

• increases safe discharge from ED
• reduces avoidable hospital admissions
• improves ED patient flow and length of stay
• improves patient and staff experience
• enables clinicians to work at optimal scope of practice
• optimises use of hospital resources and inpatient beds.

Implementation Toolkit

To support statewide scaling and operationalisation, an Implementation Toolkit has been developed for RAID-ED. The Toolkit provides guidance for LHDs/SHNs seeking to implement the RAID-ED model, while maintaining fidelity to the evidence-based service.
