Allied health models of care

Scaling evidence-based allied health models of care is strongly aligned with the key objectives set out in NSW Health’s strategic frameworks. These include:

  • NSW Health Future Health Strategy 2022-2032
    • 4.6 Unlock the ingenuity of our staff to build work practices for the future, and enable modern employment arrangements, support co-designing of models of care and sustainable health service delivery.
  • NSW Health Workforce Plan 2022-2032
    • 3.1 Expanded scopes of practice for clinicians to suit the local community need
    • 3.2 We have consistent use and scope of multidisciplinary teams (MDT) across the system.
  • NSW Regional Health Strategic Plan 2022-2032
    • 1.5 Accelerate changes to scope of practice whilst maintaining quality and safety, encouraging innovative workforce models and recognition of staff experience and skill.

Scalable workforce solutions

In alignment with these key strategic objectives, the Workforce Planning and Development Branch collaborates with Local Health Districts/ Specialty Health Networks, Pillars and other health agencies in NSW to consider workforce implications of evolving models of care and system-wide reforms. This work supports the implementation of innovative, scalable workforce solutions.

Implementation Toolkits

Rapid Assessment, Intervention and Discharge - Emergency Department (RAID-ED) and Quick Access Response Team (QuART) are evidence-based, transdisciplinary allied health-led models of care that improve patient flow, reduce avoidable hospital admissions, and optimise workforce capability through earlier and more coordinated intervention across care settings.

The RAID-ED and QuART Implementation Toolkits have been developed to support operationalisation and statewide scaling of these models. They include:

  • Model of Care
  • Transdisciplinary Scope of Practice document
  • Example Position Descriptions.
