The purpose of this document is to provide guidelines for applicants and set down the conditions associated with applying to and receiving a Postgraduate Nursing and Midwifery Scholarship. Applicants should read this document carefully prior to applying for a scholarship.
The Nursing and Midwifery Office (NaMO) offer Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Postgraduate Scholarships to individual registered nurses and midwives who are studying a postgraduate course.
The scholarships aim to support the retention and skill development of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander registered nurses and midwives working in NSW Health and to help with course costs associated with postgraduate study.
The amount of the scholarship is based on the postgraduate qualification being undertaken:

Applicants should review the following criteria carefully to check their eligibility prior to applying.
To apply for an Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Postgraduate Scholarship, applicants must be:
Complete the online application form, accessed via Aboriginal postgraduate nursing and midwifery scholarships.
Scholarship applications will be assessed by the Aboriginal Nursing and Midwifery Strategy team at the Nursing and Midwifery Office.
Applicants successful for a scholarship will be notified on 9 March 2026, via the email address nominated by the applicant in their application form.
Scholarship recipients will receive 50% of the awarded scholarship amount upfront (first payment) by 30 June 2026 upon confirming their acceptance and providing evidence of their Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN).
The remainder of the scholarship (second payment) will be awarded upon successfully completing the requirements of their study program. To claim second payment, recipients must provide an official academic transcript that adequately reflects their successful completion of course requirements for the program for which the scholarship was awarded.
From the date recipients are awarded first payment, recipients will have the following timeframes to successfully complete studies and lodge a claim for the second payment:
Beyond these timeframes, the scholarship will lapse, and the recipient will no longer be eligible to claim the second payment.
If scholarship recipients withdraw from studies at any stage in their study program, they will no longer be eligible for the second payment and will forfeit the scholarship. Recipients must notify the Nursing and Midwifery Office in writing within seven days of withdrawal.
Full or partial repayment of scholarship funding may be required after review of individual circumstances.

Recipients may choose to postpone or defer study at any time during their studies and according to the relevant education provider’s conditions. To receive the scholarship’s second and final payment, applicants must successfully complete their study program within the stated timeframes.
If you have only received an acceptance letter into university at the time of application, please supply this when submitting your application. Please send your enrolment that details your subjects enrolled as soon as it becomes available to you to MOH-Aboriginalnursing@health.nsw.gov.au
Scholarship recipients will not receive their payment until providing evidence of the Commonwealth Assistance Notice (CAN).

Scholarship funding is provided to assist students with educational expenses directly associated with their nursing or midwifery studies. The Nursing and Midwifery Office does not require receipts.
Scholarship funds are available to cover all subjects in your course once only. No funds are available if you fail a subject and need to repeat.
A refund of scholarship funding will be requested should an overpayment be identified, or if you do not continue with your course (subject to individual review).
