About the scholarship

If you’re an Aboriginal person currently working as a registered nurse or registered midwife employed in a NSW Health facility, a postgraduate scholarship of up to $10,000 is available to support your postgraduate study and help with educational expenses.

Postgraduate study is a chance to expand your knowledge and provide career development opportunities that will support cultural safety within NSW Health impacting the health of Mob.

  • ​Scholarships of up to $10,000 are offered to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people employed as registered nurses and midwives within NSW Health who are studying a postgraduate course.

    The scholarships help with course costs directly associated with postgraduate study. They are open to those working in full or part-time positions in NSW Health. Casual employees may also be eligible.

    The amount of the scholarship is based on the postgraduate qualification that you're studying:

    • Graduate Certificate: up to $6,000
    • Graduate Diploma: up to $8,000
    • Masters Program: up to $10,000

    Applications open 9am Monday 15 December 2025.

    February

    Applications close 11:59pm Sunday 22 February 2026.

    March

    All candidates notified of recruitment outcome by Monday 9 March 2026.

  • To be eligible to apply you must be:

    • of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent

    • known and accepted in the community that you live or have lived
    • currently studying or about to study a nursing or midwifery postgraduate degree at an Australian higher education provider, leading to a qualification at Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma or Masters level
    • a resident of NSW
    • currently working in NSW Health, in a local health district or specialty network as a registered nurse or midwife and employed on a full/part-time, or casual basis (average of at least 2 shifts per week)

     Within the application, you will be prompted to upload:

    • Cover letter of no more than 500 words describing:
      • a statement of your Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander heritage
      • how your studies will make a positive contribution to your current role as a registered nurse or registered midwife and to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples
    • a Resume outlining your educational qualifications and work experience
    • evidence of enrolment in a postgraduate degree relevant to nursing and midwifery with an Australian higher education provider
    • a letter from your employer on their official letterhead, dated and signed including:
      • your name
      • title of your position
      • employment status (full-time, part-time or casual)
    • documentation that confirms your Aboriginality stating that you:
      • are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent
      • identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and
      • are accepted as such in the community where you live

  • Prior to applications opening I have:

    • read the information available about the scholarship
    • checked that I am eligible to apply for the scholarship
    • marked all key dates in my diary
    • updated my resume
    • collected evidence of enrolment in an Australian postgraduate nursing or midwifery course
    • collected evidence to corroborate my Aboriginality
    • written a cover letter
    • received a letter of support from my current NSW Health employer.
