Futures cards are designed to help you explore and prepare for key megatrends shaping the future of health in NSW. These cards are designed to support local thinking on plausible futures and support decision making to land in our preferred future by investing time, resources and energy into shaping tomorrow.
Megatrends are large, transformative shifts in society, technology, environment, economy and health that unfold over years or decades. They are made up of smaller trends that combine to form megatrends. They shape how people live, work, and interact, and have direct implications for the future of the health system and its workforce.
Futures cards are designed to be used as an educational tool to build awareness for clinical and operational staff about upcoming healthcare trends emerging on the horizon. The futures cards break down the megatrends into three to four smaller trends, helping to make them more relatable.
The futures cards can also be used as a practical tool in operational and clinical service planning.
The futures checklist outlines the approach to establish what your public health organisation's (PHOs) desired future state is and explore what activities need to take place to arrive at this future.
The checklist includes a Start / Stop / Continue framework, which can be used to develop an actionable plan for the future.
Lastly, the futures cards are designed to initiate conversations about the future, to create a culture of foresight and responsiveness to the challenges and opportunities presented by the future.
