PTS is for non-urgent transport only. If an emergency ambulance is needed, call Triple Zero (000).

Anyone requiring transport within 30 minutes or less is out of scope for PTS.

Patient Transport Service (PTS) is available for people who meet an eligibility criteria. Within greater metropolitan Sydney, transport is undertaken by qualified Patient Transport Officers or, when required, under the supervision of an enrolled or registered nurse. Patient transport may be undertaken by NSW Ambulance in some regional areas.

Only health professionals and staff in hospitals, private hospitals, residential aged care facilities and medical practices can make a booking with PTS. Patients and carers cannot make PTS bookings.

NSW Health hospital staff can make bookings with PTS via the Patient Flow Portal (internal to NSW Health). To ensure the most efficient and effective use of PTS' services, bookings should be made as early as possible.

Booking PTS through the Patient Flow Portal

The Patient Flow Portal is accessible to NSW Health public hospital users. All registered users of the PFP can book PTS through the portal. This excludes Outpatient Clinics.

Information about the Patient Flow Portal

The NSW Patient Flow Systems Programs provide staff with the knowledge and tools to minimise delays in people moving through care. The system offers ease of booking for users through single screen functionality and automatic population of booking fields from the Patient Administration System. Booking through the Patient Flow Portal further benefits hospitals by allowing for all patient flow activity to be managed through a single platform.
