Highlights included:

  • 547 notified cases. The number of cases notified in NSW varies substantially from year to year, with between 442 and 534 cases notified between 2012 and 2016
  • 90% of notifications were in people born overseas, of whom 91% were born in a country with a high burden of tuberculosis (>40 cases per 100,000 population per year)
  • of the 51 Australian-born cases notified in 2017, 20% had spent more than three months in a high TB burden country. There were five cases of TB notified in Indigenous Australians (rate two per 100,000 people).
