Worried they are getting worse?

We will ask you if you’re worried they are getting worse when they’re in hospital. Please tell us.

Support services

As a parent or carer, you know your child best. You may notice subtle changes that indicate a change in your child’s condition before health workers can detect changes in vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, or breathing.

Worried they are getting worse? is a new tool  for paediatric and neonatal patients. It recognises that parents, families and carers are an important part of the healthcare team. That’s why we will ask you:

“Are you worried they are getting worse?” Please tell us.

  1. If you think your child is getting worse, simply say “Yes” when we ask - or tell us at any time. The health worker will listen to your concerns and check your child.
  2. The team will talk with you about the patient’s care plan. Your concerns will be addressed during this check. If needed, they will ask a doctor to review.
  3. What if you are still worried?

If you are still concerned, make a REACH call for an urgent patient review by a senior health worker.
